Scoliosis

Home - Scoliosis

According to the American Chiropractic Association, scoliosis affects over seven million people in this country in varying degrees of severity. Most cases of scoliosis are mild and exhibit no symptoms, making diagnosis challenging to doctors without experience in musculoskeletal treatments. If left untreated, however, your scoliosis will gradually get worse and could impact your quality of life. The good news is scoliosis is entirely treatable through chiropractic care.

TREATING SCOLIOSIS IN Dar Es Salaam

A Tanzanian woman receives a chiropractic adjustment from Spinal Health Chiropractic Center in Dar Es Salaam for her scoliosis.

In short, scoliosis is when the spine, usually the midback, curves irregularly to the side instead of its ideal straight alignment. A scoliosis patient’s spine also tends to twist and contort as their scoliosis gets worse.

There are multiple forms of scoliosis, but the most typical three are:

  • Congenital scoliosis usually occurs at birth and results from a baby’s spine or ribs not forming properly.
  • Neuromuscular scoliosis is caused by any underlying neuromuscular conditions like spina bifida, polio, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, polio, or cerebral palsy.
  • Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common variation of scoliosis, the causes of which are still unknown to the medical community.

Many people with scoliosis aren’t even aware of it since it produces no obvious symptoms at mild levels. The subtlety of scoliosis as it begins to form is a big problem since it will continue to get worse over time and begins to cause problems beyond the initial spinal curvature.

As the curvature and contortion get worse, it can cause other symptoms that include:

  • Nerve or spinal damage
  • Shoulder or back pain
  • Spinal fluid leakage
  • Weakness in the spine
  • Uneven shoulders or hips
  • Uneven rib cage or shoulder blades
  • Muscle spasms
  • Difficulty in breathing
